The little black dress should be a staple in any wardrobe, but I didn’t have one. True, I had bought George and Ginger’s Mix It Up pattern for my daughter. The sizing starts at Tween 12 and she loved the keyhole front.
Actually, the first dress I did was for me (sorry, kid!).
Mix-It Up, a dress with multiple variations
No less than 10 front and back possibiities, 5 skirt options and 2 tunic length. And options on your sleeve lengths too.
What’s the most difficult in this pattern is to choose which options you’ll sew!
This is a dress meant for knit; However, you can sew it fully with the serger due to the curves of some of the necklines.
My little black dress
I chose the Leaf front with the Horseshoe back, cap sleeves and half-circle skirt. Fabric is black milano from Alltissu.
Actually, I had chosen to sew the high-low skirt, but I didn’t notice it was for a tunic…
I had to re-order some fabric during the sales and cut the right skirt this time.
I didn’t muslin it. I did a size 12 for the bust blended with a size 14 below.
I will print ALL OF THE OPTIONS to have them on hand if I need another dress. I have a funky fuschia fabric….
All in all, I have been rather busy sewing for me this summer: Kew dress and skorts were really a pleasure to sew.
