Majorelle* got me back on the sewing tracks. I was caught in a rut and had no other will than…knitting!
Since I had loved my Galicia shirt and since Majorelle* had some of its features, I applied to test it.enir à la couture. Très peu envie de coudre dernièrement mais une grosse envie de me remettre au tricot à la place, je vous montrerai!
- Majorelle*
- Poplin, challis, shirting, etc
- Adequate fusible interfacing (I used G700 with my fabric)
- Snaps or buttons
- Elastic
The Majorelle pettern
Majorelle* can be sewn as a shirt or a dress. The latest offers a fabric belt.
No cup sizes, but you can choose either the regular or full bust option.
The main feature is the gathered neckline along the top of the raglan sleeves. But for my, it was the optional ruffled collar. Such a feminine touch.
In my opinion, this pattern shares some features with the Galicia shirt*, but it has no darts and, consequently, is looser around the bust and waist.
The bottom of the sleeve is easy to sew: add a length of elastic!
The curved hem makes the leg longer. You know hw I love that!
Spring on a blouse
From the start, I knew what fabric I would use: some pink/purple/spring fabric that would enhance the lovely ruffled collar.
That was the stupidest move for a tester because you can’t see the gathering and the raglan seams. I failed as a tester, but I got a nice shirt!
My fabric comes from the Fabric Baron’s Mega surprise box. This e-shop will close definitevely soon, so you can get some nice deals.
Did I say that I love the collar? Have a look how well designed it is, reaching exactly where it should, with no chin scratching in sight.
I used the finished measurements chart to choose the sizes I needed. I did a bust 4 graded to 6 at waist and hips. No other alteration.
This a looser shirt than the ones I wear the most, so I may grade it down to 4 at waist and hips next time and shorten it a bit.
It’s an easy sew, especially if you use snaps and skip buttons/buttonholes.
You’ll have quite a bit of gathering to do so here’s a tip:
Gather each half of the neckline instead of gathering at one go. Gather from right front to center back, pin the notches together, and distribute the gathers evenly. Repeat for the left front/ center back. You’ll get more regular gathers.
