{Test} Orono top, Itch to Stitch

Orono top, La Casa Cactus

Time to get back to the sewing station!!! The mornings have been rather cold lately so when Kennis from Itch to Stitch asked for testers for her new pattern the Orono top, I applied. I was drawn by the tulip front that reminded me of the beautiful back of the Crystal Cove Cami I tested for Miss G and I (you can see both here and there).

The Orono pattern

If you’re looking for a quick sew, the Orono is perfect because it has a rather small number of pieces to cut.

It’s top with raglan sleeves and side pockets. I love how the pockets are sewn: they have one single layer and do not add thickness at the front. The hem closes them at the bottom and they are topstiched against the main front.

It’s a rather high turtleneck but you can wear it folded in half ou just decide to cut it to your preferred height.

The choice of fabric is really important. 20%. stretch at the maximum and with a nice drape. I chose a lurex knit I had in my stash, from Lolie-shop (btw, the shop is now re-opened!!! Bad news for my Visa…!). I had already used this knit with my Aveiro cardigan, another Itch to Stitch’s pattern.

My Orono

According to the size chart I was a size 8 at the bust and 10 below. I checked the finished measurements chart and chose to sew a straight size 8.

My first garment showed sleeves with extra fabric at the armholes, as you can see in tge picture below.

I shortened the armholes by 8 cm and it was much better.

I might sew a 6 bust and 8 elsewhere next time.

My next Orono will be made of a stretchy knit so I’ll downsize it I think.

Some Itch to Stitch pattern can complement the Orono:
