Some red fabric, a pattern gifted by Pattern Niche*, a few weeks before the holidays, well, what about sewing a Christmas dress?
Frist time sewing a wrap dress, the Boardwalk*.
Let’s see what’s the result.
The Boardwalk dress
This PDF pattern with layers goes from US 00 to 26.
Options are plenty:
- various lengths: tunic, knee, or maxi
- double-fold hem or ruffle at the hem
- sleeveless, short, or split sleeves
This dress* is meant for wovens with a nice drape like twill, viscose.
Mrs Claus’ dress
Size chart placed me in a size 6 for the bust graded to a size 10 for waist and hips.
Because I was a bit short on fabric, I sewed the mid-length dress with a rolled hem.
The split sleeves appealed to me so I sewed them (the joy of sewing options!).
Bias-binding the neckline was a bit tricky because this crepe fabric didn’t crease well. Hence the choice of a rolled hem with my serger!
Well, the neckline is very…deep! I think I’ll need to sew a lace cami to go underneath because it’s way too revealing for me.
The waist is rather high and the tulip skirt is lovely.
The crepe is from my mega mystery fabric box from The Fabric Baron. The coupon was just big enough for the Boardwalk*.
I’m not sure wrap dresses are for me because the focal point is on the bust. I had to try!
