I bought this pattern last year. We had a family wedding and I thought that I could use it as the party outfit. But I totally chickened out, finding that the no bra/one strap was…not for me.

I altered the pattern into a two-strap jumpsuit with a cute purple Indian fabric.

Then I fell in love with this amazing Minerva fabric*: Soft and textured, with cute white polka dots against a black glossy background, it’s a dobby weave stretch woven crepe. Since it’s a print on demand fabric you have a choice between 43 colors!

And then I thought: what about pairing the jumpsuit pattern with this fabric and adding smaller polka dots for the drape? My other option was to add bright pink crepe for more color contrast.

Polka dots…and more polka dots

Let’s be honest: this jumpsuit is way out of my comfort zone. Wearing at a party…Why not? Otherwise, it’s a hard NO.

But sewing is also a way to experiment other styles. And, in the end, this jumpsuit grew on me.

The drape is made of double georgette*. The scale of the dots is smaller, enhancing the contrast. The double crepe is also matte so we also have a fabric contrast glossy vs. matte fabrics.

I left the sleeve aside. I didn’t like it at all. It was too asymetric to my taste.

I cut a size 12, but I could have gone one size up, it’s a bit tight.

Why did I not size up? Because Simplicity so-called PDF patterns are not formated as real PDF patterns and are a real pain to assemble. So I already have size 12 pattern pieces…

I will let out some of the seams under the bust. We have 5/8″ seam allowances, I’ll go down to 1/2″.

I’ll keep the bust at 5/8″ because you need some support there and I don’t think this jumpsuit is bra-friendly.

The drape is pleated, ut I think gathering it would have been better with the crepe.

Some technique

Even if I skipped the sleeve, I didn’t have to alter the armscye. I simply use some invisible binding as finishing.

I didn’t alter the length. I’m 5’4″ for information and my heels were not that high. If you wish your hems skim the floor, add some length at the legs.

Use a fine needle for both fabrics to prevent snagging.
