The grass was scorched by the sun, but I endured those hot summer days in style, thanks to my Eliana dress*!

I usually already have the pattern BEFORE choosing the fabric. That time, it was the other way round.

And I can say they both worked really well for this hot summer ’22.

As soon as I got my fabric*, I knew that I would like to show how flowy and soft it was.

I wanted a bare-shoulder dress. I already had bought the Eliana pattern, but I also had Rebecca Page’s Emma dress* in mind. Alas, the latest was a fabric hog!

Eliana can be worn with raglan sleeves or left without. Edges and straps are made of bias.

4 pieces only for the summer version, with a closure by ties. It was a really quick project.

I did a quick size 42 muslin and noticed that I needed some adjustments at the upper bust. It was gaping a lot at the side.

Cutting viscose challis can be tricky, but I used my beloved rotary cutter*.

Instead of binding the back opening, I drafted a facing and placed a strop of G785 fusible interfacing.

Look how lovely the jungle fabric goes with that pattern!

As an afterthought, I really should have cut the armholes one or, vene, 2 sizes smaller. It’s low and revealing, even with my alteration.

I used a length of elastic at the waist and added a thread loop instead of the ties. That was fun to do: I used 4 strands of embroidery floss and did my first loop! So cute!

All in all, I’m rather pleased with this pattern, but there seems to be some inconsistencies at the armscye level. I’ll tell more about it once I disclose my second Pauline Alice make soon…
