A wedding guest outfit requires an elegant bag, right?
I went with the simplest of simplest bag pattern from Sacôtin. It’s called Cachôtin.
It’s a FREE pattern, a good way to discover the amzing world of the bags Sacôtin designs. I’ve done quite a few of them (just *click here* to have a look at all the bags I made).
- Cachôtin
- One (or two) fabrics
- Some interfacing (G700 is my go-to, usually)
- Fusible fleece or, if you want a sturdier bag, choose Bouncyfirm 210 instead of fusing interfacing+fleece
- Magnetic snap
- optional: purse chain
The pattern
The clutch bag pattern Cachôtin is so easy to sew!
You can match and mix fabrics thanks to its 3-part flap. You can carry it by hand, using the central strap, or add a chain or a strap.
It’s a quick sew, perfect for scrap-busting!
A two-tone Cachôtin!
The outfit I made for this wedding was out of a two-tone silk dupioni. My chaussures* are navy blue suede. I’ll show the outfit later, but if you’re curious, I made a wearable muslin.
I didn’t have enough fabric left, but as I was tidying up my stash, I found a piece of navy eyelet and some fuschia sateen.
I decided to underline the eyelet with the sateen, to get the shine of the sateen throught the flower of the eyelet.
Loook how shiny it is! I love it!
The process was straightforward: I simply cut the main pieces twice, one in eyelet and the other in sateen. Then I basted the layers together, wrong side of the eyelet against the right side of the sateen. Each assembled piece was then treated as one layer.
My aim was for a firm clutch bag. Instead of adding interfacing and fleece, I interfaced the lining with Bouncyfirm 210. Very firm!
Tip: cut your Bouncyfirm without seam allowance.
My first thought was not to add any long strap.
However, my daughter reminded me that we had a cockatil after the ceremony and it wouldn’t be practical to hold a bag, a glass of champaign, and some tiny edible things. She was soooo right!
So I did add a shoulder strap. Some gold simili sewn like binding, for a width of 1 cm and a total length of 1 m.
I sewed it to the top of the flap because I could hide it inside if I wanted to simply hold the bag and I (also) had no tiny gold D-rings (and neither time nor will to go and buy some).
I love my little bag. It is tres chic and was great during the ceremony, the cockatil, and the whole night.
