Today’s my turn on the Itch to Stitch‘s Tour for the Jacqueline Hoodie.
The pattern
I have a hard time seing for me. I’m not a big fan of dress or skirt. Pants would be tto much of a challenge for me due to the many aletrations I would need.
So it’s a bit tricky to find a pattern that pleases me in the comfy department!
I applied ot be a tester when the pattern was in testing phase and I was pretty happy when I was chosen. I was really keen on sewing the zipper, THE thing that frightened me (and is still frightening me!).
But, you know, the more you sew zippers, the easier it gets and evey designer has his/her way to sew it and you will find your own way quickly.
The off-center zipper is the focus point of this pattern IMO.
I cut a straight size M and it was perfect. Be prepared to cut multiple pieces, especially for the fronts that are interfaced.
That means that each front will be cut 3 times!!! Cutting time needs to be taken into account.
Sewing the Jacqueline Hoodie
Every step is detailed and I sewed this hoodie in just 3 days. Lots of topstitching are involved and because of all the layers, one should have a machine that handle them well…My Janome does not!.
I like the princess seam at the front that preven the boxy shape some hoodies have.
The 3-piece hood is lined and sewn beautifully to the neckline, hiding said seam.
Optional shoulder tabs add a little bit of chic. You can even sew (22) non-functional/decorative buttons on the front pieces.
Single welt pockets are caught in the princess seams.
I would advise to use medium weight knit. I used two Ponte de milano I had in my stash and they were a bit thick.
It is by far the most tricky garment I had ever sewn and I’ve never felt stuck somewhere thansk to Kennis’ instructions.
