My wedding guest outfit

I could not NOT sew myself a cute outfit for a wedding my husband’s family. And I used silk!!!

If you’re a follower, you may have already seen the muslin I made to assess fit and check what needed to be modified.

Here are new alterations and the whole outfit.

  • Vogue 2085
  • Silk dupion
  • Cotton voile
  • Dye
  • Invisible zipper
  • Hook-and-eye
  • Fusible interfacing

New alterations

The back of the dress was where all the truobles were. I think the pattern had been drafted for round back and long torso. Which I don’t have!

I opted to add darts at the back neckline and shortened the torso. That was OK, but not super cute.

I spent hours watching J.Stern’s videos on Youtube and learnt a lot about my predicament with the back neck.

I’ve learnt that I have both a low-base neck and an erect posture. Both can be addressed with the same alteration!

So I did the following adjustments:

  • low base neck
  • torso shortening at the back (some kind of sway-back adjustment)

The whole pink Vogue 2085 set

Here it is! The outfit I dreamt of and created.

I was adamant to use silk dupion. Mine is a two-tone dupion (pink with a shade of navy). The lining is cotton voile that I had to dye.

No need to say that a size 70 needle was needed. No thicker or else…ugly holes! No unpicking either.

I chose navy blue suede shoes* and I also sewed my clutch bag.

And, at the very last moment, I bought this cute fascinator*. All in all the whole outfit was about 120 euros. Not bad!

I love my outfit. The color is amazing, I felt so good in it (silk is amazing during hot summer days), and the dress was done to my own measurements (size 12 as the base).

The whole family,  my son towering over us, hobbits!
