Sewing a dress for me was one of my goals for the past year…I was a bit disappointed when I wasn’t taken as a tester for the Asta dress so, when Christina (Wardrobe by Me), called for testers for her Curvy Asta Dress, I applied and crossed my fingers.
EU size 44 was spot on for me…so I thought…I ended having to blend sizes ( bust size 40 and size 44 for the rest). Poor Christina, I was a bad tester on this one.
This dress has many options such as 2 necklines (boatneck and turtle neck -medium and high) and 4 sleeve options (sleeveless, short, 3/4 or long). It’s made for knits with some stretch and..BAM…my knit wasn’t stretchy enough to get my head past the turtle neck. Bad tester, very bad tester, Christina will never have me on board again…!
The bodice is fitted until the natural waist and then a 4-piece skirt gives a nice swirl to the silhouette. The skirt’s hem reaches just below the knees, but I’m not fond of my calves so, being shorter than the intended height, I didn’t take off anything to get some length added to my skirt and I love the way it is.
I must say that’s a dress I adore and it’s flattering. I also love my fabric, even if it wasn’t as stretchy as I thought. Even if my husband doesn’t love the floral print, he loves the dress so I’ll choose another print or some solid next time!
Because I couldn’t change my neckline, I cut neckline facings for the front an back and it gives a crisp classy look to this dress.
It also emphasizes the importance of sewing a muslin first before cutting into your good fabric!
All in all, I love this dress and I’ll sew another one soon, using Mariefleur’s pocket alteration. I also want to test the boatneck version, but I’ll muslin it first!
