The Foz top

Foz* is a pattern by Itch to Stitch* that was released in 2021. I had never documented it yet. Rather surprising?!?

Some options make this top a staple and it’s also a very quick sew.

The Foz pattern

Only available as a PDF pattern and with sizes ranging from 00 to 40, the Foz top pattern*‘s also offers full or regular bust.

Two sleeve lengths are offred: long and short, short being rather elbow-length.

Recommanded fabrics are stretchy fabrics like cotton jersey.

The front has a V neckline closed by a button band.

Stretch percentage is important when sewing knit tops. The Foz is slim-fit.

I chose this cotton jersey* with 5% elasthan. The choice of colors was amazing: 133 colors to choose from! That WAS tricky.

This fabric is not see-through when stretched and it has good recovery.

I used the rotary cutter to cut it and assembled the pattern pieces with my serger and hemmed it with my coverlock (+ stretch thread in the looper).

I graded between 6 and 8: 6 for bust and waist, and 8 for the hips. I could have done a 8 for the bust, it’s a bit too tight.

I also did some alterations to make it fit. All of these alterations are common for my body shape:

  • shorten the total length
  • shorten the shoulder seam
  • lower the shoulder slope

The Foz top is closed by snaps…that I didn’t have…I sewed buttons directly on the band, with no buttonholes! That’s a knit top, it’s stretchy enough.

I think it would look nice with a cami underneath, like Itch to Stitch’s Cartagena Cami*.
