I had in mind to sew new Samara pants* (you can see the one I did for my daughter here).
A large remnant of lurex tweed had been waiting on the shelf for the past two years so it was high time I cut it.
Samara, a pattern by Itch to Stitch
If your plan is to sew ultra-wide leg pants that feel like you’re wearing a long skirt, choose the Samara pattern.
Samara* is a speedy project with very few pieces, but it requires a lot of fabric (2m30 for each size). Sizing is the old ITS sizing, going from US 00 to 20.
No pockets, back darts, an added straight waistband, and a side invisible zipper feature in this pattern.
A fabric with drape is compulsory. Crepe, linen for a summer feel, but I wanted a winter vibe!
My winter Samara
It was obvious to me that I would use that huge remnant of lurex tweed* I had already used with the Saler blazer.
The drape was exactly what I had been looking for. Bonus: I would empty my shelves (a bit!).
I cut a straight size 10, but the waistband.
Added straight waistbands are not flattering so I drafted a facing. Doing so lowered the pants’ waistline. It hit me at a better place.
Sewing these pants was quick and straightforward. I even used my invisible hem foot. I loved the end result and will probably use it more.
I pondered whether to shorten the legs, but I will only wear the pants with heels so I let the total length intact. (I’m 5’4″ for reference).
I love these pants. They can be dressed up with golden shoes for a bit of bling or be more formal with black shoes.
