Working Out with Rebecca Page blogtour

by Elsa

Time to working out with some sport attire from Rebecca Page. I needed some new sport clothing and this Working Out with Rebecca Page blogtour came at the perfect time.

I chose two patterns from her collection: The Bralette and the Sports shorts and Leggings and she was gracious to give them to me free of charge.

The Bralette pattern

This bralette is great for low-impact activities. It is meant to be worn with a bra underneath, but I found that I didn’t need it when practising yoga. I’m a B-cup though so that may explain why a bra underneath is optional.

The racer back is great to not feel constricted when opening the chest for instance. I wanted some fun print and sewed this funny silver blue scale spandex knit (from 123Cousez) at the back (lined with main fabric for good recovery).

The changes I made on my size L pattern were minimal. Since it was drafted for a C-cup, I had too much fabric at the front so I did a Small Bust Adjustement for my B-cup. I also have a rather small back and reduced the width at the center back. No big deal and a good fit (I could have shorten the front length a bit due to a short torso…next time).

I didn’t underline the bralette with powernet since my grey knit fabric was thick and had great stretch and recovery. I would have used powernet in the event of doing much active sports.

What’s great is that you can add a pleated or gathered skirt and get a nice tank top with some kind of shelf-bra. I can see some nice tank tops made of wicking fabric for next summer.

The leggings

I went really easy with capri-length leggings. I wanted something quick to sew because you know how life can be! That was extremely rewarding to sew a size XL in less than an hour and see a perfect fit.

I’m always a bit wary of bottom patterns because you may find that it doesn’t fit great. This time was perfect from the start.

That elastic waistband is so soft. It’s 4cm-elastic from Ma Petite Mercerie, with a plush back. The silver stripe goes well with the grey of the leggings and the silver scale fabric of the racer back.

Still working out?

My plan is to sew other capri leggings for me because that’s a length that fits me well. My daughter has other plans though! She wants the shorts-over-leggings look. She wore a short-length RTW identical pair in Florida last August and really enjoyed it. My plan is to use my beloved Airtex mesh fabric from Tiaknight and some nice lightweight jersey with some funky binding. I’d love to get my hand on some rainbow stretch binding, but it’s not easily found in France.

I’m happy that the shorts can be sewn either from knit or from woven. Since she’s at the bottom of the size range, I will use some fabric scraps I saved over the years. You know those scraps that you saved “just in case I need it”!

I want to thank Rebecca Page again for sending me these awesome patterns free of charge. I’m a bit difficult to please when it comes to very close-fitting clothing (ah, damn body-consciousness!), but I found both pieces to be great for my body type, easy and quick to sew.

Thank you! My daughter asked me if this silver scale fabric was for a disco-inspired dress 😄😄!

I do too ! And the fact that you can sew the shorts in knit or woven is also awesome.
