Everybody needs a blazer jacket in his/her life so when Christina (Wardrobe by Me) called for testers for her Blixen Blazer, I applied and crossed my fingers because of my failure in the Curvy Asta Dress (read all about it here!). I had already sewn one blazer in my life, for my son so as a self-taught sewist, I have still a lot to learn.
Actually, sewing this pattern was not so tricky. I had to do some alterations due only to my own body type. I had to blend sizes and to alter the height. I did 2 muslins and it was not that bad. Next time I’ll also alter the upper bust since there’s a bit too much fabric there.
Blixen Blazer offers 2 different backs: one plain and one peplum.
Sourcing fabrics was trickier. I ordered some heavy weight knit from Rijstextiles and some milano from Les Coupons de Saint Pierre. The latter was very nice and soft, but it lacked the body I needed for my blazer whereas the former was exactly was I was looking for. I also ordered my stretch lining from Rijstextiles.
Who said that blazers had to be office-wear only??? Jeans+Converse+ blazer= nice comfy outfit! I love how the shoulder pads give the whole blazer a clean-finish look.
I also paired it with my Asta Dress (pattern test here). Perfect for my goddaughter’s communion next June (one outfit done, three to go!).
My plan is to sew another Blixen Blazer with the peplum (and a vibrant red lining…!) and to pair it with the Haute Skinny Pants made of out stretch denim or stretch corduroy.
