The Elfriede shawl

I had never ever knitted a shawl with some lace deisgn…Well, I had never ever knitted a shawl actually!

I found the lovely Elfriede* design (by Very Shannon) and the leaf motif and ribbing really caught my attention.

The Elfriede shawl

Elfriede* is an asymmetrical triangle shawl with a leaf motif and ribbing along one of its side.

It’s very easy to knit, once you get the rhythm of the pattern.

I LOVED that the instructions are both written and on a diagram. I really struggle with diagrams due to my eyesight!

The abbreviations are thoroughly explained so don’t be afraid if you’re a beginner knitter. The Elfriede pattern is a really good introduction to shawl and lace knitting.

My blue Elfriede

The yarn that was advised was too expensive for me so I used my trusted Yarnsub site and opted for Drops Lima yarn.

The mix of wool and alpaga makes for a cosy shawl. I knitted 9 spools, using a size 4 mm long circular needle (you will need long cables to accomodate the finished length).

I couldn’t block properly my shawl during the winter months. So, even if it had been finished in January 2024, I only blocked it during summer 2024. I needed a sports mat, blocking cables, and T pins.

I soaked the shawl firts in Eucalan no-rinse wash. Then, a long time was spent pinning the shwal to the sports mat. Blocking was compulsory due to the lace motif.

Such a cosy shawl!
