{Test} The Sage top and dress, Modkid

Sage is the perfect Back-To-School outfit. It’s the newest tween/teen pattern by Patty Young, the designer behind Modkid. I’ve already sewn dresses by Modkid such as the Avery, the Cassidy, and the Vivian. I love how the pattern pieces are labelled and it’s so easy to assemble the pattern.

That being said, let me show you the Sage dress I sewed for Miss G.

The Sage pattern

It’s not a surprise to you if I tell you I like multiple patterns. By ‘multiple’ I mean ” a pattern with various possibilities’.

The Sage pattern offers the following options:

  • Slim-fit dress or top
  • Straight or crossed strapsTop with

  • Top with a flounce or without (the latter option is totally reversible in that case so it makes 2 tops for the price of one LOL!)

  • Dress with or without flounce at the hem

The button placket offers the possibility to sew buttons or to use snaps.

Her Sage dress

I used chambray from  Coupons de Saint-Pierre to sew the dress. But this grey was a bit dull…so I decided to add some color pop to it.

I hired the kids to color some feather fabric I had left from my DIY Creative Apron. The Teen Boy was rather surprised by the task…coloring fabric wasn’t in his plans for the summer!!!

The fabric is by Rico Designs and is called ‘Doodling Feathers’. I got it from Creavea. The fabric markers are from [amazon_textlink asin=’B000U7LU3E|B000U7LU3E|B006RK3F9K’ text=’Giotto ‘ template=’ProductLink’ store=’lacasacactus-21|laca0c6-21|lacasacactu0e-21′ marketplace=’UK|FR|DE’ link_id=’5ffa2e44-9e25-11e8-b99b-4363a5633f66′]and are available anywhere.

Because it was lacking some fun, I added some bright yellow [amazon_textlink asin=’B00K4Z4HZA|B01E16R1K0|B00K4Z4HZA’ text=’star-shaped plastic snaps‘ template=’ProductLink’ store=’laca0c6-21|lacasacactu0e-21|lacasacactus-21′ marketplace=’FR|DE|UK’ link_id=’e620397c-9e25-11e8-9a7b-f3dc2117aa09′] (remember? That’s my daughter’s favorite color). And then, I used some [amazon_textlink asin=’B00A45DKWG|B00A45DKWG|B00DBABQOU’ text=’Maxi-Lock Swirl thread‘ template=’ProductLink’ store=’laca0c6-21|lacasacactu0e-21|lacasacactus-21′ marketplace=’FR|DE|UK’ link_id=’14986ec6-9e26-11e8-96db-2310e650cd1b’] to topstitch. Pfew! From some dull and boring grey to a cute grey with pops of color!

And now she’s got a nice Sage dress that can be worn with or without a T-shirt underneath. She asked for a top with the flounce for next time! I think that I will grade from a size 14 bust to a size 12 waist and hips. I will also do my usual alterations i.e. sway-back and short torso!
