Celeste, the everyday dress, the one you put on and go out for the day or the more elegant version with a homemade stole.

A pattern called ‘Celeste’
This pattern from Itch to Stitch is meant to be sewn in lightweight wovens. I say ‘lightweight’ because there are tiny gathers on the front panel.

Fitting Celeste
The pattern I had already adjusted last year was a size 8 B graded to 10 at the hips.
Nowadays, I need more space at the bottom back otherwise I feel constricted and it’s not comfortable at all.
So I added 0.5 cm to all of the back bodice pieces.
I also lowered my shoulder seam near the neck, blending to nothing at the shoulder joint. This small adjustment made wonders to the extra fabric I had at the back neck and the gaping at the front.
However, one of the mistakes we can make when we start mastering our body and fitting techniques is to overfit.
A garment is to be lived in. We move!
So don’t tell yourself:” oh, that’s ugly to have this extra fabric there”; No, you need it!
I skipped the side zipper since the dress has enough ease. This makes it a rather easy pattern.
A lightweight summer dress
I had a crush on this fabric before even knowing what pattern I would use…This is a denim with a wide bottom band embroidered with flowers and stems and finished by scallops.
I was sure that Celeste would be nice, but I had forgotten that the skirt was made of 6 parts. I couldn’t use the border.
But sometimes you need to think out of the box.
The bottom band became a stole.
So you get 2 dresses in one.
The everyday Celeste…
…Or the more formal Celeste, with its embroidered stole.
Now that I have tested some embroidered fabric, I’d like to use it on a garment. I’m looking for patterns that would show off embroidered bottoms and scallops. Please share your ideas in the comment section.
