Sew Straight and Gather: Avenue Collection

La Casa Cactus, Avenue Collection-Sew Straight and Gather

Terri from Sew Straight and Gather has just released her brand new capsule wardrobe for kids! The Avenue Collection is full of beans and can be worn by my picky tween daughter!

Made of three wonderful pieces, the Avenue Collection mixes knit for top and duster and woven for the pants.

Let’s start our review by stating the size range!: 2Y-14Y. OK, let’s see what I sew!

I chose to sew the top with deep back and bands (size 12). I used a great cotton/lycra knit from Rijstextiles. I’m really pleased with the knits this shop provides.

Apart from being focused when sewing the bands and the binding, this top is easy to sew. It gives a charming result and I really love the fact that the waist is not straight, it’s slightly curved to accomodate the natural curve of the waist. No boxy top here!

The Avenue Collection Top/Dress comes with many options (sleeve length, CB back seam or not, vent etc).

A piece of clothing I had never experienced, but that’s a great spring sewing. Many options there too. Length is versatile and can even go to the ground! Side seam or bucket pockets, three front bands etc.

Fabric is Milano from Les Coupons de Saint-Pierre. Extremely comfy to wear according to Miss G (and easy to sew too).

I played a bit with the top front and added a small homemade brooch (pin+charm+hot glu gun!)

The pants are the “trickiest” part of the collection. I say “trickiest” because there are welt pockets if you choose to sew them and a side zipper (if you want one!). All in all, it’s not “that” tricky if you stay focussed on your sewing and the instructions are great. I love welt pockets!!!

Fitted through the knee then much wider at the bottom, the trousers are great on my daughter. I had to alter the waist a bit since she has a sway-back and I blended sizes (10 for the waist and 11 for the length).

I used some stretch gabardine I had in my stash and it has the right amount of stretch to make comfy pants.

Lovely flats with some hint of Liberty fabric (Cyrillus)

Once again many options are offered with the Flares: with or without a side zip, with elastic back waistband, front pocket, back welt pockets…!

Last but not least, SALE PRICE until April, 21st: CAD$ 5 for one pattern and the bundle is CAD$ 15. So HURRY if you want to benefit from this offer!!!
