Mindelo summer shirt

Back to pattern testing with ITS’s newest pattern called Mindelo*.

I don’t really have summer tops made for wovens. I loved that Mindelo* had sleeves options and a nice shape thanks to various darts.

  • Mindelo*
  • Shirting fabric (poplin, viscose, linen, etc)
  • 6 12-mm buttons
  • Interfacing

A plaid Mindelo for summer

The more I grow older, the less I like t-shirts for summer! Which is rather paradoxical since a t-shirt is easier to iron during hot days.

I tend to slowly turn to natural fiber woven tops, with shaped waist and darts.

I immediatly chose to test the sleeveless Mindelo*.

You can add sleeves if you like. The options are:

  • one ruffle sleeve
  • two-ruffle sleeve
  • flutter sleeve

The V-neckline is sewn with a facing where the buttons are set.

Bust darts and fisheye darts at the back shape the whole top.

The PDF pattern is available in US 00-40 with cup options (and a full-bust option as well).

My plaid Mindelo

I always try to find fabrics in my stash when it comes to testing patterns.

This one is not natural at all. It’s some viscose I got in a surprise box.

Plaid fabric meant…plaid-matching!

I cut a size 6 for the bust (with a B cup) blended to a size 8 for waist and hips.

The total length was too much on my short torso so I cut off some length at the two S/L lines.

The buttoned facing/placket was rather easy to sew. I’d advise to baste the layers before the final topstitch line.

You’ll have to finish the armhole with invisible binding. I can’t get it right. I much prefer facings at the armholes so…I may draft a facing  for next Mindelo.

In then end, I have a really cute and quick summer top. I’ll lengthen it a bit (0.75 cm) next time, so as to tuck it in if necessary.

My plan is to use some white linen I have and add some brown buttons.
