A quick and easy project after having sewn that beautiful, but demanding, wedding guest outfit.
The Irazu skirt* is the perfect summer skirt with its 3 lengths included in the pattern.
- Irazu*
- Fabric suitable for lightweight skirt (linen, poplin, chambray, etc)
- Invisible zip*
- Hook-and-eye*
- Fusible interfacing
- 1 cm-wide elastic
The Irazu pattern
Short, long, or long with a ruffle are the 3 lengths you can sew.
The curved front and back yokes are underlined by cute little gathers.
The skirt is fastened by an invisible zipper and a hook-and-eye. You can add pockets in the side seams.
The back has a length of elastic to keep it taut against the skin. I like that feature since I have a sway-back.
Some linen blend
I cut a straight size 8, short length with no pockets. I don’t like pockets on skirts!
Because you have gathers, you need some fabric that is rather lightweight. I had exactly the right fabric waiting patiently to be used on my shelves. It’s some linen blend I got from a mystery box.
No alteration needed, the fit was amazing. I didn’t even muslin it.
The length is perfect for my height. And the green color pairs with my green plaid Mindelo!
That was a real palate-cleanser after the wedding guest outfit. I see 2 more Irazu skirts in the near future.
