Her Ethel blouse

by Elsa

HER blouse, that’s right. Why ‘HER blouse’? Because she chose both fabric and pattern.

Ethel, actually, is the latest pattern by pm-patterns. The Billie jacket? My Yzé top? Karine designed them.

Ethel, is the Swiss army knife of the patterns! A plethora of possibilities: 8 types of sleeve, 3 necklines, blouse or dress, waist or empire cutting line, etc.

And this is only for the paid pattern…because there’s also a free tutorial that adds other possibilities. Amazing, right?

Ethel for Gabrielle

I passed on this test. I had no time at the moment.

But my daughter saw it and she had chosen some AGF poplin with horses from one of my Minerva hauls!

She’s almost 15 so she isn’t fond of Mom’s sewing any more so I was pretty happy when she asked to benefit from the test!

She chose the basic version: blouse with waist cutting line, jewel neckline, and hemmed long sleeves.

The peplum shape goes well with the -rather- visible horses. This fabric is not see-through and she was ecstatic!

A quick check to the size chart confirmed that she would need a size 34. Since she’s a tiny nugget, I also planned to shorten both bodice and sleeves by 3 cm.

It was a real quick sew. I fnished my facing as usual (I promise there’s a video tutorial on the way…). The facing was cut in a white sheet! The horses on the facing would have been visible from the outside.

I shouldn’t have shortened the sleeves that much. I corrected that on the master pattern.

You may ask what my ‘master pattern’ is. When a pattern has been printed, taped, and altered and if I know that I will use it again, I transfer it onto brown kraft paper.

She enjoyed this blouse so much that she asked for another one, with other options.

She loves the high-low option and I agree that it’s cute on top of skinny denims.
