In France, we’ve just changed from summer to winter time so that screams to me: “COZY TIMES!!!”.
I’ve been so lucky to be chosen to be part of this season’s New Horizons‘ promo team so I chose to sew the Harbor Hoodie, an oldie but goodie pattern (it dates back from 2015).
Terra’s been one of the first pattern designers I tested for…I mostly tested for my daughter then (see her Boardwalk dress here). Now I devote my sewing time to sew for me!
The Harbor Hoodie pattern
This cardigan is a lined cardigan with a wrap front. No fear of closure here since you will just have to sew 2 ties on the front and one tie on the inside (+one button/buttonhole/snap).
You know how I hate boxy shapes. The Harbor Hoodie offers princess seams and I love that feature.
When I’m home, I like to be cozy, so I preferred sewing the hood instead of the collar.
The front is finished by a bias. It’s so lovely. I prefer bias instead of a plain band folded in half and serged. But you must take the extra layers into account since some machines may be reluctant to sew through so many layers. I used my Janome’s walking foot and it went like a breeze.
The inseam pockets are deep and very useful for all the trinkets I carry around the house!
My cardigan
I checked my measurements against the size chart included in the Harbor Hoodie‘s instructions and decided upon a Large. Roomy as a I like, but not too much.
Let’s talk about fabrics. The lovely print is French terry I bought a very long time ago on Tissus Lolie Shop‘s site. It wasn’t meant for me at all, but for my daughter, in primary school at that time. Then, time passed by, she didn’t want it anymore, I had it in my stash…but I had not enough fabric for me! Hence the bi-fabric Harbor Hoodie. The navy is Milano from All Tissus. It’s such a beautiful fabric: heavy, strechy, and with an amazing recovery. I wish I had bought more.
They complement each other so well and the princess seams are underlined with the opposition of solid vs. printed.
I usually do a narrow shoulder adjustment and shorten the sleeve length, but I only shortened the height by 1″. I can wear a chunky sweater underneath and still have room to move.
I hope that you enjoyed seeing my Harbor Hoodie. It’s a really easy and quick cardigan. As such, that’s rewarding. Bonus: you can either wear it home or outside, depending on your choice of fabric.
