V2085, a new Vogue pattern

I wanted to sew an outfit looking like those from Paule Vasseur.

I spent a week-end looking for it and I benefited from a Vogue sale and got it V2085 for $7.99!

A gorgeous dress with princess seams at front and back, with a lovely front yoke and fully lined.

That was what I was looking for down to the T!

I ordered the PDF pattern in sizes 12-20 since the measurments chart put me in a size 14.

Vogue/Simplicty PDF patterns are…mehhhh! Useful, cheaper, but not formatted: no layer, a ton of paper. Well, I needed it so I printed the sheets…!

A few muslins later….

I sewed 4 muslins.

I went from a size 14 to a size12.

Here’s a list of the adjusments I made:

  • Shortened the shoulder length
  • Back neckline: I added darts (!). I couldn’t get it to be placed properly (and it still isn’t properly set).
  • Shortened overall back length: -1.5 cm between shoulder blades and sway-back adjustment in two different places.

The back was really problematic. I had fabric pooling at the top back. I don’t think I stand that straight though.

I couldn’t adjust the front properly. I’m lacking in sewing knowledge and even if I had already adjusted princess seams, I couldn’t pinpoint what I needed there.

The (unlined) jacket is a straight size 12, with no slits at the sides and back (just a little faux vent). I didn’t like to have seams that were almost open (only 1 inch was sewn, the rest being the slit).

I also skipped the buttons.

Tips and tricks

Try your needles on various layers.

I started with a universal 90 needle, but it left holes in the fabric. So I went down a size.

I also had skipped stitches when topstitching so I switched to a microtex (80) needle.

The instructions weren’t that easy to follow so sewing the muslins helped me assess the fit, but it also helped understanding the steps.

Instead of topstitching the dress, I understitched whenever possible for a more streamlined look.

The outfit

I love the outfit! The fit is great and the colors are cute.

The golden fabric is amazing and adding the pale pink jacket makes it church-appropriate.

This pattern is great, once you have fitted it.

Now, I need to sew a handbag…adn what about a fascinator? I’d love to take some classes on hair piece creation.
