I hadn’t tested patterns for a long time but I couldn’t miss the new Itch to Stitch blouse, named Galicia.
I was drawn to the raglan sleeves. I had neither seen nor sewn a woven top with raglan sleeves.
Galicia or the surprising blouse
There are so many interesting features in this pattern! It really is different from what can be found on the market at the moment.
That’s a blouse with a round neckline, underlined by a myriad of gathers.
The raglan sleeves are also gathered near the neckline and close to the wrist cuffs.
Said cuffs also sport a slit bound by a continuous lap.
(Optional) fish-eye darts shape the waist and have a real slimming effect.
The back is home to the button placket.
This is a layered PDF pattern, with cup sizes (A to DD) and going from US 00 to US 40.
Springy blouse
I chose a B cup and cut a 8 Bust graded to a 6 Waist, blended to a 8 Hips.
I love darts so I did both front and back darts.
I did no alteration whatsoever, just to check the overall fit.
Fabric was some remnant I had from my latest Bonn shirt. It’s a rather soft floral poplin*. Buttons need to be rather big (22 mm are necessary). Mine were from my late mother-in-law’s. They fit the bill, being 20 mm and rather thick. Their being orange make a subtle reference to the orange on the print. I’m pretty happy about how they stand out on the back.
I’m so pleased with how this top turned out, even without alterations. It’s so slimming with these darts, the neckline is wonderful, and I’m a bit surprised to see that I now like frills, gathers, etc!
I have some lawn remnant given as an extra by Mondial Tissus and I hope it will be enough for a new Galicia.
