Winter means time-to-sew-cosy-loungewear! So when I was asked by the lovely people at Mondial Tissus if I wanted to choose among their winter fabrics, I didn’t hesitate. I have been wanting to sew flannel pajamas for a while. So long summer dresses!
The pattern had already been chosen in my mind: Jalie’s #2686.
The classic pajamas
Instructions by Jalie are always thorough and straightforward.
The PJ pattern has a pocket at the top of the shirt and slits at the bottom of the leg.
The design feature I love the most is the elasticized back waistband. No elastic at the front, just a ribbon to be tied. Fully-elasticized waistband increases my muffin top and I just hate that, even in PJ’s.
That collar…!!! It looks so professional and tricky, but it’s not. Very detailed instructions to get an awesome result.
When you buy a Jalie pattern, you get sizes from child to adult+ curvy. Great, huh? Pajamas for the whole family in 2020!
This is a rather old pattern, so it doesn’t have layers. Be warned!
My cosy PJ
Mondial Tissus has lovely flannels but I knew that I wanted that floral beige flannel. Beige, burgundy with a hint of ice blue scream winter to me.
That floral can be paired with a solid fabric too, but I went with the full floral look.
You can add piping to the sleeves, pocket, and collar. I chose gold Lurex piping.
I’m happy to have bought the piping foot for my Janome. Piping is thus easy to sew. Just place the seamline of the piping on your seamline, insert the cording into the grove and that’s it, you’re done and can sew the piping.
Tip: cutting the cording inside the seam aloowances prevents extra thickness.
I cut a size W and it’s the right width for comfy pajamas. This pattern needs a lot of fabric though.
I also interfaced the collar for a better result.
With the winter sales going strong, it’s easy to get nice PJ’s that fit at a great price. You can sew them in various fabrics. Some satin (yellow daisies paired with solid yellow) or some organic poplin (red floral paired with solid red) or for a luxurious pair of PJ’s, some Liberty for the shirt and teal pants.
