When Kennis first asked for testers for the Envigado*, I had so much to do I passed…and I was really sad! So when I was co-opted for the blogtour I knew what pattern I would use as my main piece.
This is the perfect outfit for transitioning to fall. Actually, I’ve just sewn another Itch to Stitch pattern, a jacket for fall*, but shhhhh one never has too many vests/jackets!

The pattern
The Envigado* is a vest with patched pockets and a drawstring at the waist.
Front and back princess seams nicely shape the bust.
A snap placket hides the zipper and the stand-up collar (that I adore!) gives the whole jacket a more structured look than a more classical pointed collar.
My Envigado
I chose to sew my Envigado vest* out of lightweight navy blue corduroy I had in my stash (Tissus Lolieshop). In order to complement that fabric, I bought some notions and it was a bit tricky because I wanted a navy blue zipper with silver teeth. I found all I needed on my usual e-haberdashery, Mercerie Extra.
The cord is homemade and so simple to sew: some cording and some wide twill tape. I used my cording foot to enclose the cord (as if doing piping). Then I folded the extra twill tape around the cord and zigzaged over it. Necessity is the mother of invention!
I sewed a size 8 bust blended to a size 10 waist and hips. No other alterations.
The finishing touch
While I was cutting my fabric and interfacing, I realized that some Hong-Kong finish would be nice. I decided to use a lovely Liberty lawn I had been gifted and cut my bias (using Kennis’ method of the Continuous Loop).
You may ask what a Hong-Kong Finish is? It’s a way to finish your seam allowance with bias. So much nicer than a mere serged edge, but it does add extra time to your sewing so keep that in mind (I didn’t!).
Look at that inside (I didn’t really follow Kennis’ instructions to the T because that lawn was flimsy).
Pair it with a shirt and denims. The shirt is my favorite Bonn, another great Itch to Stitch pattern (I wrote about it here).

I agree with the HK finish. This is a time-worthy step for unlined jackets/vests. I may never go back to simply serged seam allowances!
