{Test} Fashionista Jean Jacket (Winter Wear Designs)

Let’s get a look at the new Winter Wear Designs‘ pattern: the Fashionista Jean Jacket. A denim jacket is a staple in any wardrobe and this pattern offers such a twist on the denim jacket. I had already sewn some Winter Wear Designs and I enjoyed sewing another pattern. You can see my take on the Button Up Shirt.

A round collar finished by an outer facing, a short fitted length, funny pockets…The perfect jacket than can be worn as an outer garment or as an extra-layer under a warm winter coat.

The Fashionista Jean Jacket

I cut a straight size M for my Fashionista. I should have shorten the torso a bit since the jacket should hit between the natural waist and the high hip and it’s a bit low on me.

It’s not a pattern that is difficult to sew BUT you need time ahead of you to topstitch. Or you have a second sewing machine dedicated to topstitching. I should set up my Singer for that task (but then, I’ll need another table…).

I do love the pockets. You can sew 2 types of pockets: the mini ones and/or the side-seam ones. I chose the mini ones that can accomodate some paper tissues!

My Fashionista jacket

I used a very thick striped denim for my Fashionista Jacket. My fingers were killing me after having cut all the pieces! I even had to hammer my seams otherwise my sewing machine wouldn’t get them under the pressure foot. I really need to buy a heavy-duty machine or, at least, one that can handle thick layers (I love the Janome MC6700P, it’s affordable). But it will have to wait, other things need to be paid before LOL. In the meantime, it is hammering and a denim needle size 100 that do the trick.

I didn’t even try to sew the buttonholes so I used big metallic snaps (the ones for tents and thick outer garments!!!). I really need to restock since I have used them all.

They bring a little bling to that jacket that could have been a bit boring. I bought the [amazon_textlink asin=’B01F3UWWHU|B000OV337C|B000P1ASDI’ text=’Vario pliers‘ template=’ProductLink’ store=’laca0c6-21|lacasacactus-21|lacasacactu0e-21′ marketplace=’FR|UK|DE’ link_id=’b294304a-cf8b-11e8-ab99-f981b7e88680′] a long time ago, when I started sewing and I must confess that I had no use of it! But then, I started using the pliers a lot along with my [amazon_textlink asin=’B07G4F4CY5|B07CXV6RDP|B01N7QRYKT’ text=’Kam snap pliers‘ template=’ProductLink’ store=’laca0c6-21|lacasacactu0e-21|lacasacactus-21′ marketplace=’FR|DE|UK’ link_id=’c63efb46-cf8b-11e8-9f2a-f762506b56bd’].
